OFFER DESCRIPTION
Hosting place: FRANCE: The «Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles» is a research CNRS-specific Unit (https://icsn.cnrs.fr/) whose activity is focused on chemistry and natural product at the chemical-biological interface. It is part of the Paris-Saclay University (https://www.universite-paris-saclay.fr) which since 2015, brings together research and teaching establishments in southern Paris. The ICSN is located on the Gif-sur-Yvette campus and host around 125 agents, including 76 permanent staff spread over 3 buildings. Within the Department of Organic Synthesis and Catalytic Methods the Applicant will join the team "Photocatalysis and organocatalysis with efficient reactivity (Power : https://massongroup.wixsite.com/power) consisting of 3 researcher and 6 temporal/ doctoral students. He / she will be placed under the hierarchical authority of the team leader. The agent will work directly with Dr Geraldine Masson and Dr Luc Neuville and collaborate with the associated team.
PhD student, otherwise refered as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR), will be trained in the context of “PhotoReAct” Network (project no. 956324) (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/956324/fr), a European Innovative Training Network (ITN) funded by Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action (https://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/actions/research-network...). As such, the ESR will interact with the PhotoReAct graduate school and with industrial and international partner. All ESRs will perform three secondments, of which at least one is intersectoral and carried out with an industrial partner and a second is international. Consequently, the ESRs will have improved career prospects and a higher employability.
PhotoReAct is an Innovative Training Network (ITN) of 14 organizations from industry and academia. Centered on the use of visible light energy to induce chemical transformations and thereby offering a green activation mode of organic molecules, the network intents to provide opportunities to overcome the current limitations towards the applicability and scalability of photochemical transformations. This will be achieved through rational design of novel photocatalysts, the development of new photocatalytic methodologies, improved reactor technology and direct industrial implementation of photocatalytic transformations.
In this context and as member of the PhotoReAct EU funded Network (project no. 956324), we have an opened a PhD position.
Subject: Visible-light, by a definition an abundant and cheap source of energy, has recently emerged as key for the development of outstandingly sustainable catalytic chemical processes. Despite the numerous synthetic applications, which have been achieved so far, implementing this strategy in an asymmetric fashion remains an important challenge.
In this particular context, the PhD project proposes to study new classes of visible-light sensitive chiral organocatalyst. Design of the initial new photocatalyst will be made such as to introduce the chiral source in close proximity of the photoreactif center and to take advantage of a dual activation. These new catalysts will be tested in unprecedented photocatalyzed-enantioselective transformations involving the activation of very poor electrophilic functions and undescribed in organocatalysis.
Requirements:
- Applicants must meet the requirements of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Conditions of Mobility of Researchers. Researchers can be of any nationality* including French, but are required to undertake transnational mobility. This means that applicants can not apply for a position in a country where they have lived more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
- MSc degree within maximum 4 years in Organic Chemistry is mandatory.
- Good oral and written English skills
The offer: Offer consists of a full time temporary contract for 37.5 hours per week for the duration of 3 years. This should lead to a dissertation (PhD thesis). We will draft an educational plan that includes attendance of courses and (international) meetings. No teaching is expected.
Indicative salary € 2135.00 per month.
Applications in only one pdf should include:
• a letter motivating
• a detailed CV listing education, work experience, publications, relevant other activities and coordinates of up to three referees;
• academic transcript of B.Sc. and M.Sc. education;
Deadline for sending your application is December 20, 2020
Following the 'Women and Science' movement, the PhotoReAct project encourages and promotes applications from excellent female candidates. The CNRS is the party responsible for processing your personal data (the 'controller') within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation ('GDPR').
The selection procedure will include examination of eligibility rules (provide documents,) examination of letter of motivation-CV-achievements, and at least one interview (video calls) including a small presentation. Please read the Charter and Code for recruitment.Candidate will also be evaluated at the Doctoral school of Chemistry of Paris-Saclay.
